For over 7 years Logihedron Inc. has provided, and continues to
provide, a third-party warehousing and distribution service to a
regional hospital group in South-Western Ontario. From a 30,000 square
foot warehouse Logihedron provides a complete supply replenishment
program to this group which includes the following hospitals:

St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton
St. Michael’s Hospital
Groves Memorial Hospital
The above group of hospitals provides patient-care services to a
substantial population in the Hamilton, Toronto and surrounding areas.
Combined the hospitals have approximately 2,000 beds, a significant
number of operating rooms and provide the total array of clinical and
specialty hospital and out-patient services to the communities they
serve.
The warehousing facility is located in Oakville, Ontario as has a
footprint of just under 30,000 square feet. The facility includes
racking for bulk pick areas and inventory storage, carousels, flow
racking and other product storage and movement equipment. The supply
management program is powered by the efficientC information management
system from Aurillion Micro Systems. The efficientC system was designed
specifically for low-unit-of-measure regional hospital supply management
programs and includes extensive front-end count functionality as well as
the Warehouse Management System. EfficientC interfaces seamlessly into
the various hospital systems as well as the carousel system within the
warehouse.
The key components of the warehousing and distribution program
Logihedron provides to this hospital group include:
Operation of the building facility including
responsibility for maintenance of the building and equipment
Ordering of replenishment stock from the product
suppliers and demand forecast management
Physical and system receiving of inbound
shipments and put-away to pick and/or over-stock locations
Daily pick forecasting and replenishment of
forward pick locations
Daily order picking, consolidation and staging
of outbound shipments
Coordination with the third-party common carrier
for transportation of the shipments to the hospital sites
Daily communication to the hospital sites and
end-user personnel as required with respect to any supply issues
Tracking and reporting on Key Performance
Indicators
Work with the hospitals on product
standardization
From an operational perspective, Logihedron provides a complete
turnkey third-party warehousing and distribution service to the hospital
group. In addition to operating the main warehouse and distribution
facility, at the St. Michael’s Hospital site Logihedron staff also
provide the on-site support for the end-user supply cart replenishment.
Logihedron staff performs the end-user stocking cart counts, put-away
the product on the carts and provide a total cart management process to
the end-user areas.
The success of this supply management program is supported by the
cost savings that have been achieved, the financial effectiveness of the
operation and the consistent level of service (average 99% line fill)
that has been maintained since the beginning of the Logihedron
involvement with this regional hospital group over 7 years ago.
